Traveling Al Frisco: Petrolicious Looks At A Truly Cool 1971 Porsche 911 That Has Lived A Couple Of Lives

Those of us that love cars talk about them as if they were somehow human in many ways. We look at their features, their foibles, we think about their strain and toil when they are driven hard. Long story short, we see them for far more than mechanical objects and that’s why stories like the one about the fantastic Porsche you see above and below resonate with us. Petrolicious featured this 1971 Porsche 911 for very good reason. It was a race car for many years until it was effectively destroyed in a spectacular wreck. Following that the owner had it rebuilt and put back in street driving shape. After that, the car went off to the countryside with a new owner and that was that. Or was it.

The current owner saw what he thought was the car years later and a simple test proved that it was, in fact the car that he wrecked and saved. The test was to open the door and listen for a particular noise it made in a particular spot. The chassis was bent so the door clanked when it opened. As Andre opened the door and heard the noise, he knew that it was his former car.

Taking the machine back into his possession and doing a complete and utter revamp of the entire thing, the former racer was converted into a grand touring car and upfitted with a more powerful engine and a stronger roof rack to carry luggage for trips. Now this car leads an even more awesome life. It get shipped to a country and then Andre and his wife meet it there and put thousands of miles on it seeing locales like New Zealand, Australia, and coming soon, Japan.

This is an awesome story and an even cooler video.
