Ahh, the fun process of building an engine. Getting the parts, making the sub assemblies up (pistons and rods), measuring things, and then bolting all of those exacting, clean, awesome new parts together. Or some of them. Or not as many of them as you planned, but still making progress anyway. One of the things we really love about the Hagerty Redline Rebuild series, even beyond the “payoff” video at the end, are the step by step videos we see Davin complete. In this one, he planned to have the whole short block assembled but a cross-up in the parts ordering process stopped him from going the distance there. That said, he is able to continue undaunted and get some additional work done on the head he had not been planning on. Still a win.
We have never seen the guts of one of these engines before. It’s as tiny as you’d imagine but for its era and really any era, it makes good power for its displacement. The three main bearing design is reasonably beefy for such a short crank and while small the pistons and rods seem robust enough to handle whatever Davin and the boys will throw at them at the completion of the build.
This little green block is cool. And getting cooler by the show.
