(By Tom Lohnes) – Audi fans listen up, because there is some good (and bad) news coming at you right now.
Starting off on the good news the new 600-horsepower, AWD, RS6 Avant station wagon has finally hit American shores in production form after a slight pandemic-related delay. There is a year-long wait list for this hot wagon and you need at least $110,000 to get one. This beauty mixes aggressive styling with a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 and a luxurious-yet-sporty interior. 0-60 for this beast is 3.5 seconds, and the RS6 currently holds the Nürburgring record for Fastest Wagon. at 7:21.65 seconds.
Moving on to the bad news, Audi’s own Halo car, the R8 has been discontinued along with its little brother the TT. The R8, with its screaming N/A V10, along with the TTRS, packing a turbocharged 5-banger, are both gonzo. The TT was kind of expected due to horrific sales numbers, but the R8 was moving units relatively fast for a supercar. Speaking of relatively fast, the R8 hits 60 in a mind-boggling 2.6 seconds, and has a top speed of 221 miles per hour.
So, there’s the day in Audi news. I think the power move here is cancelling your R8 order and placing one for the RS6, which will result in you keeping almost $100,000.
Definitely sucks about the R8…Not that I’d EVER be able to own one but they are pretty sweet cars. Really dig the RS6 wagon.
