When Matt from Urchfab started the Mongrel project I was hoping it would be something like Project Binky, which I absolutely love. It has some similarities for sure, but I am actually glad that the projects are so different in many ways. I also like that Matt’s way of building stuff. He’s methodical, uses logic and his use of the car to design stuff, and his fabrication is simple, clean, and nice. You gotta love someone that decides he’s going to take a 1959 Ford 100 body and slide it on over an MX5 Miata chassis. It’s a recipe for way better looks, but with all the handling prowess of a Miata. Anyone that knows autocross and road racing knows that the Miata chassis is a great one, but we certainly like the look of the 1959 Ford 100 better.
If you have missed any of this build, click the link below and you can watch all the fun and excitement. Matt has been working feverishly on this thing, and has had a few setbacks, but nothing he couldn’t overcome. Hell, this thing got stuck in a body shop and he had to get it back and do the paint himself which required some learning and trial and error for a guy that is much more comfortable with a welder in his hand than a paint gun.
In this installment, you can watch the Mongrel get strapped to the dyno for some tuning and power rips!
