Project Mongrel Update: Replacing Spring Loaded Hood And Decklid Pins With Stuff That Actually Works

Urchfab’s Mongrel Project is one that I just can’t get enough of. Normally on a project people never show you the things they did wrong and how they fixed them. Sometimes you’ll see some new part that has come out since they started the build and have swapped to, but actually fixing previous parts of a build is something you just don’t see very often. Not the case with the Mongrel. For the most part things have been done once on this project and done right, but when something doesn’t work out the way he wants it for the Mongrel then it gets changed and we get to hear why. In this case the cheap push button hood pin release system just didn’t work the way it needed to for this application and so it needed to go.

Instead a set of more tradition pins was installed but with captured clips so that they aren’t hanging on cables or lost at the race track. I dig it. I can’t wait to see the Mongrel go off to paint and body so we can see it in the final stages and then out on the track. This is going to be a fun one to watch, that’s for sure.

Check out the latest and don’t be afraid to have to change stuff on your own projects. It happens to the best of us!
