Remember The $5,700 Plug Wires? How About Some Big Buck, Ultra-Rare, Factory New Cobra Jet Exhaust Pieces!?

As I admitted last week, I absolutely love when new in the box and oddball muscle car parts hit the internets for sale. Last week I found a set of Boss 429 spark plug wires, new in the box that had an asking price of nearly $6,000. The internet did not think those were as impressive as I did because the comments on social media were hilarious. I am betting it will be more of the same with these big buck, ultra-rare, factory new Cobra Jet exhaust components. We’ve got a set of exhaust manifolds that look like they were made yesterday and a factory h-pipe that appears to be newer than that.

These parts are for 1968-1970 Cobra Jet Mustang and Torino models. Not being in that world of high end restorations we’re guessing that either no one is making them currently or to find actual factory pieces may be worth the price of admission for the value of the finished product.

Factory exhaust manifolds are like intake manifolds in the sense that so many of them were jettisoned by hot rodders for headers and “better options” when the cars were being modified. It was no party putting a set of headers on these cars as the big block was a tight fit in both the Mustang and the Torino but thousands and thousands of people did it over the years and now the value chickens are coming home to roost.

I know I saw this too often but it blows my mind that things like this are still out there and this is only one example! There are probably a hundred sets of these manifolds in crusty boxes on shelves in shops across the country waiting to be discovered. I’m impressed with the quality go the bends in that H-pipe. Pretty trick stuff for the late 1970s, right?
