(By Tom Lohnes) – If you’re a Canadian reader we have a question. Do you want a Tesla Model 3 that can only drive 151 kilometers (94 miles)? Well, Tesla has the car for you.
No, it is not cheaper than any other Model 3 initially, but the tax incentives on low-range EVs are huge in Canada so Tesla is trying to appeal to more budget-minded customers by giving them this. Of course, 94 miles will be a struggle, especially when you reside in the second largest country in the world, but I guess it’s good for cities.
Performance stats stay the same, but the number of pulls you can do before the battery runs flat will be drastically decreased. Still, your new Model 3 is good for 4.4 seconds to 60, a top speed of 140 miles per hour, (225 kph), and starts at under $50,000 CAD.
Still, $46,500 CAD is quite a lot of money for only 94 miles. Although tax incentives are big, I don’t see many sales of this Canadian-only model in the next few years.
Figures something this hairbrained is the result of a government policy.
Yes, Canada is a vast country; however, the majority of days including work and social commutes along with errands would be far less than 151 kilometre (94 mile) range. The charging infrastructure in urban areas is good as well. I will consider one; use the Tesla to get to work/kids to school etc. and my Duramax on long roadies.
