Super Spark: Is The Next Chevrolet Model To Wear A Super Sport Badge An Electric Blazer?!

(By Tom Lohnes) – The Chevrolet Blazer of the current generation has been both a success and a failure. It has sold many units and is apparently very nice to drive in RS form, but it is about the farthest thing away from the original, body-on-frame Blazer, and even the Trailblazer that left us in 2009. Well, the Blazer name is staying, but it appears that the all-new electric one coming for the 2024 model year is a massive improvement on the newest model. Also, is that an SS badge?

So far, the only evidence that an all-electric Blazer exists is a single photo shared of the car by GM’s CEO, Mary Barra. It looks lower, wider, and longer than before, and surely much better than the Blazer we’ve had since 2019. Underneath, this new EV SUV is almost 100% going to ride on GM’s new EV platform dubbed “Ultium”, and it will likely switch from being primarily FWD to RWD for better handling and weight distribution. Of course, there will most  definitely be multiple battery and motor options to choose from, including a fast one.

So yeah, adding on to the cooler look the Blazer is taking on for 2024, there will finally be a full return of a performance SUV in Chevy’s lineup. Coincidentally, the last performance SUV they had also wore the Blazername, in the form of the Trailblazer SS. This Blazer SS though, is far different than its predecessor. Instead of the absolutely “primitive” V8 and 4-speed automatic the previous “SSUV” used, this new one will obviously be 100% electric and 100% faster. We do not know any details about anything yet, but we can assume that the same 624-hp dual motor setup that is in the top-spec SIlverado EV will be used here. That should give this thing some serious hustle. Also, it is great to see the SS name live into the era of electrification.

Like I stated earlier, there are absolutely zero details out about an EV Blazer besides that one picture. But, that is proof that GM has not given up on performance cars, and that is a good peace-of-mind thing as we move from small blocks to big batteries. Expect more details on July 18th.
