(Words and photos by Joe Grippo) – Do you enjoy four wheeled 1960’s goodness? Are you into land yachts from the 1970’s? Do super clean 1980’s shit-boxes flip your switch? Then do we have a photo gallery for you. Feast your eyes on the cars and trucks from the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s that were on display at the AACA Special Fall Meet in Gettysburg, Pa. This show was a few months ago in early November, as you can tell by the horrible autumnal shadows I was fighting while trying to shoot these pictures. Quite the challenge.
As the years go by, the 25-year-old rule for acceptance into the Antique Automobile Club of America (AACA) is allowing some interesting late(?) models to be on display at their shows. Who’d-a thunk-it? A Buick Reatta, an Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera….and Fiero’s all on the show field and deservingly so, as all were extremely fine examples. The malaise era cars are proving very popular these days and apparently low mileage surviving examples are still bring uncovered. The big Pontiacs, sweet Buick Centuries and more Lincolns and Cadillacs were well represented. The crowds formed around some odd balls though, check out the killer Opel Cadet, a few rear and front drive Rivieras plus an Olds Toronado with an amazing eggplant flavored gut. G-bodies galore as well. The Corvair 95 Rampside pick-em-up and a few super clean Fox Body Mustangs bookended this grouping nicely.
More later.
what’s with the fire extinguishers under the front wheels?
It is an AACA requirement when a vehicle is entered at their events.
Love the Opel Kadett!!!
