Craigslist Find: This Fully Built Volvo Race Wagon, Despite Being A Volvo, Is Awesome And Cheap!

Craigslist Find: This Fully Built Volvo Race Wagon, Despite Being A Volvo, Is Awesome And Cheap!

There’s a big part of us that thinks something may be fishy with this ad for a totally cool 1995 Volvo 850 wagon that has been modified with upgraded suspension, a full cage, and apparently engine modifications as well. This isn’t some slap dash, home made disaster. The cage in this thing looks like it has about 60 miles of tubing in it, the detail photos show the whole thing to be very nicely done, and the photos showing engine components highlight stuff like H-beam connecting rods and what may or may not be a high volume fuel pump.

Hey look, we know this is a Volvo. It is a Volvo with a Volvo engine and not a small block Ford or Chevy. It is a Volvo that was not owned by Paul Newman. It is a white Volvo wagon that we happen to find completely and utterly awesome. It is street legal as the driver notes he has used it for 1,500 miles since the build on the car was done. Located in Washington State, we’re pretty sure that it’ll be legal in your neck of the woods as well but you’ll have to check your local laws on that front.

Earlier in the blog we said that there may be something fishy in the ad and that fishiness is the price. The car is listed for $7,000. That is it, $7,000 and there is very little text to go with the ad but there are lots of photos proving that the car is pretty nice. Ok, really nice. It is low as all get out which could present problems of its own but it sure looks the business sitting there, that is for sure.

What do you think? Is this car cool? Is there something weird with the ad? Should we be trying to buy it?

THANKS FOR THE TIP TOMMY!

Anyone else remember the BTC Volvo wagon that use to race in the mid 90s? Pure awesome!

ETC as well . One seriously bad@$&ed wagon that showed its tail lights to the likes of BMW – Alfa – Jaguar etc on a regular basis . Winning the ETC at least once from my recollections . This looks to be an attempt to create a clone that may or may not be street legal . Assuming it wad done right and with the proper bits and pieces this might be a good alternative to the automotive madness David Letterman / Paul Newman turbo V8 powered Volvo wagons . There being something ever so sick and yet enjoyable about showing your tail lights to some pretentious wingnut in a C6 – Camaro – Mustang – Charger/Challenger with a Soccer Mom Volvo wagon

Beep Beep Zip Bang ! A Volvo just kicked yer _____

I’m guessing that Murrica never got the factory sleeper that was the Volvo 850 T-5R and the later 850R then? 😉

History son . History . And like I said above . The sheer unadulterated pleasure of showing the likes of you ones tail lights in a car you wouldn’t think could even keep up . C-O-O-L and hip [ not hipster ] to the infinite degree …. rather than same ole same ole done for the umpteenth time

It ain’t that different, junior – I’m 68 and seen a lot more (faster) ‘different’ then that. The V-8 Austin Healey (302, worked suspension, etc) that an employee of my shop had, would put a hurting on that. I appreciate anything on wheels, but that seems like a lot of time & effort for little satisfaction & I’m entitled to my opinion, like you.

Awesome engineering is awesome engineering whether its on a T-bucket like my dads or a Volvo like this one!

Looks like something someone with more dollars than sense would build. An over built under preforming foreign pile of crap.

Yeah… no. My buddy and his friend built this. A guy bought the thing and is now trying to flip it for profit. Pretty lame. That said, I don’t think a ton of money was spent on this car. The car was bought cheaply with a blown headgasket IIRC so they built another motor with a donor motor. Built it up with new and spare parts and ripped a crap load of stuff out to cut weight.

I believe this car had the cage done at cook motorsports in Norco
In the mid to late 90 we did a Volvo that look just like that could be wrong but the Tin work in the front window looks very familiar.
