Evel Knievel: True Grit – This Documentary Is Pretty Awesome, Honest, and Fun

This is something else. Evel Knievel: True Grit is a documentary style film that was made before Knievel died and it documents many aspects of his life in raw detail. Knievel himself tells some of the stories and fills in some of the gaps, giving us all a clear picture as to exactly who this American was.

We have always been honest here about our admiration for the guy’s guts but our distain for the darker side of his life which is covered here with some detail. From running a protection racket in his Montana hometown to robbing stores and banks, to becoming one of the most famous men in the world, his life was as bombastic as it was improbable.

Evel Knievel dominated the 1970s and he did it with sheer balls and a creative streak that the world had never seen. From prank calling Caesar’s Palace and convincing them that he should jump over the fountains at the casino to the complete nightmare that was the Snake River Canyon jump, the guy was among the bravest people of the 20th century…and the smartest. He may not have always used his powers for good, but the guy was original as they come.

Enjoy this. We did.
