The Hellcat Wagon Build: Mocking Up The Hindquarters

The Hellcat Wagon Build: Mocking Up The Hindquarters

Buying a rare machine is one thing, but making your dream machine yourself by hand…that’s a long, drawn-out process that requires sharp skills and the patience of a saint meditating underneath a tree. In the case of this build, which is marrying a late-model Dodge Charger body with the roofline of a Dodge Magnum wagon and the powertrain of a Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk, the work is monumental. The Magnum and the Charger are both Chrysler LX platform vehicles and the black metal of the car…the main structures, the basic parts…haven’t changed much since the platform was introduced in 2005. But the Magnum exited the program in 2008 after management felt that the wagon wasn’t financially worth the effort…much to the annoyance of wagon fans and the “anything but a crossover” crowd, and those who liked a fast, V8-powered longroof. The body lines are radically different. The tail has extended a bit rearward. Making a late-model Charger into a Magnum is possible, but it’s an undertaking and this guy has jumped off of the deep end. I can’t wait to see the progress continue on the car…
