One overly enthusiastic rally fan with their phone on a selfie stick might not completely convince you that the fans at Rally Poland were getting way too close to the cars for comfort. It’s one guy…there’s always “that one guy” and nearly any racing event you go to that has to be reminded that injuries can, will and do occur. But what about a compilation? A collection of some of the closest fly-by rally car passes that we’ve ever seen? What is sincerely scary about some of this footage is how close these people are at a jump that some of the cars seem to slide into: once the car is airborne, there is no controlling it, so if it comes off the top drifting a little, there is no way that the driver is going to be able to do anything when they notice a pocket of fans with a ton of cameras in the way. It might seem like overreacting, but this is the kind of scenario that just needs one accident to bring scrutiny to racing as a whole. The driver will be blamed, not the bystanders, and racing will suffer as a result.
