Australian automotive website The Motor Report has published a story stating that the entire allotment of 2016 right hand drive Ford Mustangs intended for Australia have already been sold. It was pretty stunning when Ford made the announcement last year that they would be shipping right hand drive Mustangs to England, Australia, and other destinations starting this year because we had assumed that they already did that. The pent up desire for these cars in those right hand drive companies will keep them a hot commodity for several years anyway, especially if the control the importation numbers as tightly as they have so far.
4,000 cars and 4,000 pre-orders. That’s the math that Ford executives both in the USA and Australia were likely hoping for. According to Motor Report, the GT V8 models have made up the majority of the orders and some 88% of the cars ordered are fastbacks and convertibles are the rare exception. All this fun comes with a price as the cars start at 44k with the Ecoboost engine and go up from there. People are paying a pretty penny to be part of the first crop of “natural” right hand drive Mustangs to ever hit the country’s shores and we can understand why.
The other major different in appearance of the cars is the fact that it seems all of the machines shipped to Australia are equipped with the smoked taillight lenses rather than the red one we are used to seeing here in the USA. Different countries have different rules regarding this type of stuff so it must be an Aussie compliance thing to have the lenses this color? Maybe some of you guys who live down there can enlighten us.
Finally, this infusion of Mustangs may help soften the blow as the traditional Aussie performance models become phased out as part of Ford’s “One Ford” program which has homogenized their offerings across the globe and made the company a model of efficiency if not killing some of its own soul in the process. These are great cars and we’re sure that they’ll be getting the Aussie hot rod touch in no time!
Count down until one of these has a huge roots blower poking through the hood and blazing the hides on the “skid” pad…3, 2, 1…
Liked the Aussie Falcons better . The Globilization thing may look good on paper and to the bean counters but in real life it sucks .
yeh, not personally a fan of them but better than a hyundai I suppose..I’d suggest that not many are convertibles because its actually too hot alot of the time here for open cars…as I write this its 5pm , 40 degrees outside (104 f) and supposed to be hotter tomorrow – and its only the 5th day of summer!
Not sure what the deal is with tinted taillights, I thought they were illegal here?
They are not tinted those are just shipping covers.
