We have to give the folks at England’s Silverstone race course for coming up with a unique way to promote their upcoming Silverstone Classic event which will celebrate the 50th birthday of the Ford Mustang. In a stroke of genius, they decided to create this video which is a loose recreation of the car chase from Bullittt using the course, instead of the hilly San Francisco streets as the backdrop. While the setting may not be accurate, the cars sure are. Both the Charger and the Mustang are perfect looking representations of the two vehicles used in what is probably the most famous car chase in movie history.
Like the movie, the Mustang sounds better than the Charger. You can disagree with us if you want but your opinion would be wrong. Yes, we know in real life that the Charger would walk the Mustang six ways to Sunday but this isn’t real life, so deal. One thing that is kind of neat is watching the two cars slide and plow through corners. The big Charger has a ton more lean and understeer than the smaller Mustang and judging by the way they look in this video, the Mustang may have had some suspension tweaks judging by how flat it corners and how composed it looks while drifting around corners.
The people who made this quick video certainly went all the way, having the drivers dressed just like the guys in the movie and everything! We wish they had thrown a VW bug in there for the cars to each pass about 50 times and maybe thrown in a flying hubcap of 12 like the movie chase, but hey, this is a fun promotion video and we thought it was cool!

Whoever put that Bullitt Mustang together nailed it. Probably the best re-creation I’ve seen. Too bad the Charger never gets any love. I read an article a few years ago that said the Charger used in the movie would walk away from the Mustang.
I STILL CAN’T POST OR REPLY ON THE FORUM!! WTF!!
Yah they dont like cleveland guys . they passed the green bug and the busa few times
To heck with that Mustang! A black, on black, on black 1968 Dodge Charger R/T gives me wood! I have the die cast of that black beauty, I will NEVER have anything to do with that over rated Ford! It needed to be said, and I said it.
I had that steering wheel in my 67 Mustang, less the leather rap. Paid $100 for it. Wish I still had it big $$ today. That detail for a “correct” Bullitt car is about $3000 today.
The dish and diameter are perfect in a non power steering Mustang.
Nothing will ever be able to replace the classic car chases of Hollywood’s past. Not even Need for speed will ever top that classic chase with the cars of that time.
