(Words and photos by Tommy Lee Byrd) – Vintage road racing is beyond cool. The racers are typically guys with deep enough pockets to take priceless historic racecars and beat them mercilessly on the racetrack. This past weekend sent us into vintage racecar overload, as we attended the Speedfest at the Classic Motorsports Mitty. The event is held at Road Atlanta in Braselton, Georgia, and it’s a three-day exhibition of beautiful sports cars and vintage motorcycles.

This year, Coker Tire held a major sponsorship role in the event, so TLB’s day job as staff photographer gave him a good excuse to spend the day at the track instead of in the office. Can’t argue with that logic! He spent most of the time trackside, capturing various classes blast around the 2.54-mile, 12-turn road course. The pits were packed with killer cars, and there was also a car corral for folks that would rather not put their vintage sports car through the wringer.

The field of cars was nothing short of spectacular, from vintage F1 cars to lots of killer Trans Am-prepped road race cars. Vintage road race cars, including AC Cobras, Ford GT40s, Corvettes, Porsches and much more were on the track all day. Action on the track was exciting, with high winding engines screaming throughout the day.

TLB packed in as much action as one day at the “Mitty” would allow, so check out the link for his gallery of photos –
