(Photos by Charles Wickam) – It was a great weekend of drag racing in Texas just a couple days back as the NHRA tour swung though Royal Purple Raceway and fans flooded in from all over the Houston area to watch the show and cheer on their favorite drivers. Racers were also not in short supply with lots of cars filling the stock and super stock ranks, which people love because of their direct connection to traditional muscle cars. Stock eliminator cars are the original small tire race cars. They have been limited to a nine inch wide slick since the dawn of time and yet there are still racers really hauling the mail all over the country.

This Charles Wickam gallery is centered around those stock and super stock machines which were pulling majestic wheelies on every run…which was most of them. The track was prepped to within an inch of its life and these cars were hooking hard. While we know that a wheelie is largely waster motion, we don’t care because they look freaking awesome, especially when the driver can hang with it for a while and still leg the car out. It is always cool to see a couple of pro drivers standing off the the side and watching these cars. Who loves stockers? EVERYONE!
