Large and Lovely: The Upcoming Genesis G80 Sport Ups The Value Ante In The Performance Sedan Category

(By Tom Lohnes) – After a 2-year hiatus, the Genesis G80 Sport has returned to inject the all-new G80 with some excitement. It comes with a normal steering wheel, too.

Using the same 375-hp twin-turbocharged V6 as the standard G80 3.5T, the Sport is more of an M-sport package than a full M-car. On most sport packages, at least some chrome would be deleted in favor of darker trim. Genesis said no to that, and gave the Sport just as much glitz as other G80 models. New on the Sport however is a new Red paint color, and an also new red interior option to spice up the G80’s already gorgeous interior. Step inside and you’ll also notice a real 3-spoke steering wheel, which is a huge departure from the odd two-spoke design in the standard G80. A real performance feature, rear-wheel-steering, is also added to make the G80 just that much quicker.

How much does it cost? Well judging by how the 3.5T G80 starts around $60,000, expect the base price to be hovering around $65,000. This price is well below the nearly $70,000 BMW charges for a 540i with the M-sport pack, so you’re getting a deal.
