We love V8 Supercars here at BangShift. Real cars (ok, more real than NASCAR) hauling serious amounts of speed around killer road courses in a land that seems to always be ready for a track day…what more could we ask for? Well, how about a little rain to add to the show? In the rare occasions that it rains during a race, the drivers don’t seem to be deterred at all, and in fact use it as an excuse to hoon more than normal. The V8 Supercar round at Sydney Motorsports Park this last weekend got rained out, the first time since 2011 that’s happened, and just when things didn’t look good, driver Shane van Gisbergen started hanging the tail of his Holden out wide. Soon Ford driver Jaime Whincup and Holden driver Chaz Mostert joined in on the fun and were drifting the track to the delight of anyone watching, and especially the announcers, who are eating it up. Unfortunately, the crew chiefs were less than amused at the antics and reminded the drivers that the tires were needed for the next race.

Imagine if we saw that kind of spectacle at a NASCAR road race. I can picture Brad Keselowski hanging the tail of his Fusion out, banging off of the limiter in 3rd…

yeh, bit of a laugh but really, V8 supercars are not real close to real cars, I have to say…but hey least they’re having fun!

A little closer than NASCARs, the doors open, lights & wipers are real.
Still way too far removed from the production versions though.
