Thanks to BangShift reader Victor Betancourt we have this video to show you below and it’ll blow your mind. The video shows a Corvette making a lap of the most insane autocross course we have ever seen at an event called the Bay Bottom Crawl. Held in Key West, Florida this course has been used for nearly 60 years and it is kind of like a combo between a land speed event, an open road race, and an autocross. The speeds achieved are mind blowing and the obstacles are basically chicanes or cone slaloms that break up the 100+ mph blasts that competitors make. From start to finish it took the guy in this Corvette over two minutes and this was a (at the time anyway) course record setting run. He incurred one two second penalty which means he must have clipped a cone somewhere in here.

Obviously if you strap in, throw your helmet on, and sign the waiver you know what you’re in for but wow. With no runoff and the speeds you’ll see here this could get ugly in a hurry. The fact that it has been going on for nearly six decades is pretty awesome and we hope the event has a long future ahead of it. Back when this thing started guys were probably wringing out 90hp MGs, six cylinder Corvettes, and other foreign jobs around. They had no idea what today’s performance cars would look like and what speeds they would achieve.

We don’t know if this is a public road closed down for the event or if this road is on an estate or what the backstory is but under normal circumstances it looks like it would be a nice place to take a drive. In hyper speed, though? You better have good equipment and have your skills tuned up. We would LOVE to see a modern pro touring car attack this course.
