(Photos by David Whealon) – We were searching around our electronic desk for something recently and got a reminder that we had a bunch of killer road racing photos that David Whealon shot at Virginia International Raceway to share with you. These were blasted during the summer when the IMSA tour stopped by the iconic venue and brought their diverse and fun series to East Coast road racing fans.
IMSA has been a series in change over the last few years. In fact, they have recently had some shakeups on the executive level. You’ll see loads of different cars in here that range from the awesomely common in the form of Mustangs, to the ultra-exotic in the form of Lamborghinis, McLarens and more. There are also the prototype style cars to boot.
There were plenty of people there to check out the action at one of the country’s coolest road courses and they seem to have gotten one heck of a show. Road racing has always been a more fringe motorsports here in America with (in our opinion) its popularity with the public peaking in the 1970s when the Trans-Am, Can-Am, Formula 5000 series, all really came into their own.
IMSA is strong today and their show is good. Check out these images and check out the tour the next time it comes to a course near you!
