Is This The Greatest Finish Ever Caught On Film At Indianapolis Motor Speedway? Four Wide And Hauling!

Is This The Greatest Finish Ever Caught On Film At Indianapolis Motor Speedway? Four Wide And Hauling!

(By Jason Mazzotta) – Racing is an exciting sport for many reasons, and fans flock to the tracks and their TV’s every week for different reasons. Some like the sounds and smells of the powerful engines, some find the wrecks exciting, but for most it is all about the close racing down to the finish line, and in this video we see one of the best finishes ever recorded at one of the biggest racing venues there is.

The race we’re about to see the ending to was the 2013 Firestone Indy Lights Freedom 100 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway and we pick up the action as the white flag is flying. As the scene unfolds, two drivers are battling for the checkered that they know is only 2.5 miles away from them at the conclusion of this final rip around the famed racetrack. The guys running third and fourth were in hot pursuit but seemingly out of the picture. They couldn’t make up that ground in the distance left, right?

Wrong. As the leaders enter turn three, the third place car has caught the front runners and suddenly we’re looking at three wide and all hold their ground leaving turn four! Here’s where it really gets good.  With all four drivers in desperation mode the dark horse fourth place driver makes a great and very ballsy move, slingshotting himself up to the high line and making it four wide drag race down the front stretch with all four drivers reaching for the stripe separated by only 0.0026 and the photo finish is legendary!

There are no incredible explosions or crashes in this video, but only hard racing as the drivers push themselves and cars to the edge to win the race, which is what racing is all about in the end. Watch it all happen below!

I think the finish between the King, Chick Hicks, and Lightning McQueen was better. Was that at Indy?

The indy lights put on some of the best action the indy oval sees. Last year I took my father in law and both brother in laws to carb day for the first time. When the Freedom 100 started they all laughed since there was only 12 cars. When the race ended they all said if you didn’t like that race you don’t like racing. They can’t wait to go back this year and they are big Nascar people but I’m changing them slowly.
