Sweet mother of speed, this is insane. Remember in the cult-classic film “Dirty Mary, Crazy Larry” when the wacky cop mechanic tells the officer picking up the hot rodded cruiser that the thing had unlimited top end? Yeah, even that guy would have a little pee coming out upon learning of a road legal car that can go 284mph. Well, there is one now and it is the fastest production car in the world, the Koenigsegg Agrea RS is the car that turned the trick and you can ride on the historic 270 and then 284mph runs that the machine made on a Nevada highway. The car is just beyond nuts and when you see how hard it pulls from 200mph on up, your jaw will hit the deck. Crazy!

The driver of the car was Niklas Lilja, carrying on a tradition of everyone and everything having to do with the impossible to spell Koenigsegg company to also have impossible to spell names. At least they are consistent. What was also consistent is how nice a job Niklas does in piloting the car. 284mph is craziness in any stretch of the imagination. It is fast at Bonneville, it is about what a nitro car is running at the eighth mile of a drag race, and it is work that Lilja handled with aplomb.

Watch the lines in the center of the road. At 284mph it is basically a solid white line you are peering at. The car, visually anyway, appears stable and controllable at speed. The downforce it is making must air that process and the Michelin tires that the team used worked great. They claim to have used one set for both of the big speed runs and when the finished, the tires looked and drove as good as new. That’s impressive.

We have no idea what the car costs but we do know that it is powered by an 1160hp twin turbocharged 5.0L V8. It sounds AWESOME.
