(Photos by David Whealon) – So when we think of Lamborghini we don’t immediately think of racing like with do with Ferrari or Porsche. We do think of insanely bad ass cars that have always captured the imagination of Italian exotic fans for as long as they have been built. That’s why these photos from David Whealon are so cool. This is a bit of a continuance of his IMSA road racing coverage from Virginia International Raceway from earlier this year and it focuses on the Lamborghini Trofeo series which pits, you guessed it, Lambos against each other on road courses across the country.

This series is cool because the screaming engines of the cars combined with the always provocative styling from the brand make for fun racing. The series is also cool because the cars are tightly matched and it really does come down to loads of driver talent as opposed to one team having the hot tuneup over another. Series like those are the perfect place for the next generation of great road racers to not only gain experience but build a following. Running as a companion to the IMSA series was a great move at VIR and every stop on the tour where it happens.
