Leading by example…one of the many lessons that years in the Army drilled into my head. The difference between a leader and a loudmouth barking orders and hoping nobody will tell him to pound sand is that the leader is willing to jump in and help get things done while making sure that every aspect of the world at large is taken care of. Or, to put it simply, a dictator demands, a leader does as well. You can tell me to fill sandbags, but if you aren’t grabbing a shovel, but instead are just standing there, don’t complain when the amount of respect I hold for you pancakes straight to “zero”.

Now, let’s look at Hoonigan. This is the house that Ken Block built, from viral videos to where it is today. The self-styled “HHIC” (Head Hoon In Charge) has done things with cars that few else have done, with precision, with grace, and sometimes with a bit too much focus on the driving and not on the car itself. (I saw you racing while on fire back in 2012 in Vegas, Block.) The videos that the Hoonigan group put out, the garage, the projects…all of that has it’s origins in this man’s driving ability.

It’s not that he hasn’t shredded up the Garage’s lot in cars before. He just hasn’t introduced his current Ford Fiesta RX43 rally car to the shop in proper form. That needed to change…
