Sound and Fury: Ride In and Watch Outside Of A Vintage Matra-Simca Sports Prototype Racer At Goodwood – Wild!

Maybe one of the finest compliments anyone can bestow upon a race car, especially one that runs in a “prototype” style category is that it’s look and sound at timeless. Not in the way of a Ferrari 250 GTO or a 1969 Camaro but in the way of a normal person looking at it, has no idea how old the car is or what era it came from. That’s the case here. You are about to ride in and outside of a car that raced in the first half of the 1970s and honestly looks like it’s modern in every way. The rounded nose, sculpted rear wheel enclosures, etc. All of it is sexy and beautiful. Then there’s the engine.

This 3-liter V-12 is as sweet sounding as anything Ferrari ever made and as you will see, it takes a car that weighs barely 1,500lbs and moves it like a rocket propelled slot car. This was not some failed effort either. These cars kicked ass, winning LeMans in 1972 and then collecting the constructors championship in 1973 and 1974. Unfortunately after 1974 Matra pulled out of auto racing but they that rightfully conquered their space in it.

We have shown some hard drives up the hill at Goodwood, but this is a HARD DRIVE up the hill at Goodwood. Aggression at its finest!
