The Buick Strikes Again: Hagerty’s Buick Straight Eight Build Hits Another Roadblock

The Buick Strikes Again: Hagerty’s Buick Straight Eight Build Hits Another Roadblock

There’s something really awesome about getting honest information, right? In today’s world of cloak and dagger, hide the flaws, and don’t let anyone know that you’re human style of video editing, seeing a smart guy work through issues is really cool. Davin is the smart guy and he’s a great wrench who we have learned a lot from over the years on the Hagerty YouTube channel. In what has to be the most incredibly frustrating engine build he has ever participated in, we’re back on the Buick Straight Eight and as you’ll see, progress hits a pretty big snag when he’s trying to assemble the cylinder head.

With this Buick build everything has been hard. Basically right from jump street this thing has been fighting hammer and tong to be reassembled. The problem Davin runs into here is a combo of things. There are some issues with the casting, there are some issues, with the parts, and there are some issues with assembly methods as well.

The biggest thing here is the us of Buick 400 valves in the head and those valves have a step in them which is going to cause all kinds of havoc once the engine is running. Interesting stuff and a true “hot rodder’s” problem which will be figured out.

We cannot wait to hear this engine run and we’re guessing Davin can’t wait to never see it again!

What’s the saying, you learn more from your mistakes than from your successes. Thanks for highlighting such mistakes – makes for a more real experience for us knuckleheads.
