Money No Object: The Sleepiest Pro Touring Buick Skylark We’ve Ever Seen

Money No Object: The Sleepiest Pro Touring Buick Skylark We’ve Ever Seen

Hearing a car called a Pro Touring build evokes certain images. Cars like Mary Pozzi’s Camaro, the RideTech “48 Hour” cars, or just about any of the cars that run in Optima come to mind…cars that never really gripped when sold new that now could hang on to the ceiling like a scared cat so long as you’re in the right gear. They hustle, they turn, they brake, and you can tell all of that simply on sight. The steamroller tires, the slammed suspensions that seemed to be strung tight…they function but there is no hiding in that world. Or is there?

Now this, we like no matter what it is. This 1970 Buick Skylark has a nice slightly-tweaked from stock look, as if it’s a F.A.S.T. racer that is going up for sale. Certainly, the Hoosiers out back help that image, but damn if that isn’t one delicious looking car. Not a Gran Sport clone, this Skylark is just…well, excellent. For a car that hasn’t turned 40,000 miles yet, it better look pretty damn good. And that’s not the half of what’s going on underneath the all-original sheetmetal. A 468 cubic inch mill runs a FAST fuel management system, so you have plenty of power to spare for whatever urgent need you feel. An automatic keeps you from working up too much of a sweat and a full UMI Pro Touring suspension setup is underneath the car.

A survivor ride from the Class of 1970 that looks basic on the outside and can get rowdy at a moment’s notice. This car isn’t a built package, it’s a freaking dream, one that is hiding in plain sight.

I had a straight, clean, low mileage ’72 Skylark about 15 years ago that was going to be my project car, had it parked in front of my house and a drunk hit it so hard it hit my house, oh well. Always liked the clean looks of these and this ones awesome.

Pro Nothing In Particular. At least the looks are QUIET. Hope nobody ever brags about it, but I can see HUGE skateboard wheels in it’s future.

That is respect right there for a Mopar guy to do a write up about a Buick. Sweet car McT!!!
