This Kind Of Gross, Moldy, Mossy Escape is Harboring A Strange Secret – Someone Needs This!

This Kind Of Gross, Moldy, Mossy Escape is Harboring A Strange Secret – Someone Needs This!

First of all we have to thank AMP EFI’s Matt Cramer for sending us the tip on this interesting little Craigslist find. The vehicle is a 2001 Ford Escape and it is harboring a weird secret. At first glance you are thinking that someone was killed in it or worse but the fact is that this secret is performance related. If you can believe it, this thing has a Kenne-Bell blower on it! Yes, back in the early 2000s Kenne-Bell actually made a blower kit for these things because the engines in them were weak suck. The supercharger displaced about 1.5L and it made 7psi of boost from the bottom of the tach right up until 6,000 rpm. The performance gains were big. 3-seconds quicker to 60mph and more than 2-seconds removed from the quarter mile time. Hell, it was not a hot rod but it was trying to get there.

Despite this thing’s derelict looks, it seems that someone went at it pretty hard years ago. The rear shot indicates that this Escape may have a custom exhaust or at least a high performance exhaust system installed on it as well to allow the whole package to work better. The blower came with a high performance tune to keep the engine happy or as happy as it could be under boost conditions as well. For $1,000 someone needs to buy this, make it run and then throw 100hp worth of nitrous to it on top of the blower before taking it to the strip. Getting one of these cars into the 13s with this stuff on it and the original engine, which would likely not be long for the world with boost AND spray would be hero level stuff. You could potentially for it for less and $1,500!

AMERICA NEEDS YOU….AMERICA NEEDS THIS!

Weird, a quick google for supercharged Escape comes up with a photo of a 2000 SEMA show Ford Escape that’s red, packs a supercharger, has a very similar exhaust and a ragtop. Like this thing.
I didn’t mind the Escape back in the day, but I wonder how often the trans has been replaced with the supercharger?
