Morning Symphony: Hear The New Twin-Turbo V6 Going Into Holden’s Supercar Racers!

Morning Symphony: Hear The New Twin-Turbo V6 Going Into Holden’s Supercar Racers!

Notice the word, “Supercars”. See anything missing? Yep…the “V8” part that Americans became so familiar with and that Australians seemed to outright cherish. With the Australian auto manufacturing industry effectively shuttered, Falcons and Commodores that are rear drive and barking out a V8 howl are gone. The Mustang has taken place of the Falcon, but over in Holden territory the world car that GM has whipped up is appearing as the Holden Commodore VXR…or, if you need a refresher, go look at the writeup for the new Buick Regal GS.

We’ve known that the Holden racing teams were going to phase out V8s by 2019 or so, but we didn’t know that Triple Eight Race Engineering had whipped up this test mule of a Holden Sandman. Packing the 635 BHP test mule engine that will appear in a couple of years, what little turbo noise there is gets drowned out in a hurry. With Supercars driver Craig Lowndes at the wheel, the little V6 gets down to business with a howl that seems closer to a V8 than we’re used to hearing. Aussie lawmakers might freak at the idea, but we wouldn’t be saddened if Buick suddenly decided to use a detuned version of the race mill to go mess with some heads. What do you think?

  1. Chevy Hatin' Mad Geordie

The reason this is a van is the four drunken Aussies that hide in the back ready to leap out and destroy any car that gets in its way. Holden is just Australian for Chevrolet which explains why such a heap of crap even exists!

Hell, MY car could perform like that if I put a surfboard on top…but I don’t, do I?
