Oil Pan Build: Watch The Neat Transmission For a 1965 Mini Cooper Go Back Together

Learning stuff, whether in person or remotely is pretty awesome. For us, this video fit that bill perfectly because having never climbed under a classic Mini, we had no idea that the transmission was literally bolted to the bottom of the engine like an oil pan! The little engine has gone mostly back together and it’s now time to get a load of the process of assembling a mini-manual (see what we did there?). Like the engine, the parts are physically smaller than what we find in more beefy and robust cars of the period but it all works the same way. How about the bronze pieces looking all beautiful cleaned up?!

This is not an instruction manual on how to build on of these things but it is a great inside look at the assembly process, the guts of the transmission and why it is hard to get 150 lb-ft of torque onto a nut while trying to hold a tiny transmission case with the other hand.

Davin is one heck of a wrench and we’re constantly impressed with his ability to receive and complete every project that comes into the workshop without massive amounts of confusion or struggle. He’s also great and explaining what he is doing, why he is doing it, and sharing his knowledge and insight into this stuff. Fun watch!
