What’s that? You are not a fan of the Ford 429? Well we don’t really understand all that but we do know that there is another option for you out there in the land of the 429 and that is the Cadillac 429. This engine was the bread and putter power plant for the Cadillac line from late 1963 right into the 1967 model year and the introduction of the 500ci engine that would be the brand’s calling card for years after. The 429 was a bored and stroked version of the “new” 390 that showed up in 1963. It had a bore and stroke of 4.125 x 4.00 respectively. Lincolns at this time had their 430ci MEL engine and were rated at 340hp.
This particular car caught out fancy out of all the Cadillac 429 powered stuff on eBay because it is the seldom seen Calais model. The Calais was the entry level Caddy and it was designed to get people into the door and make them long term customers which would move to more luxurious models once their financial means allowed them to.
In many ways the Calais was the sleeper of the Cadillac lineup. They came standard with stuff like crank windows and other manually controlled items. They lacked some of the true bells and whistles of the more dressed up models and consequently they were lighter and probably performed better in a straight line as well.
This particular car is a survivor that had some miles put on it. The wearing on the driver’s side of the car is interesting because it means someone spent a LOT of time in that seat. Maybe this car belonged to a salesmen or something of that nature. Someone who lived behind the windshield. The car is in great condition and we’d love to cruise it all over the place.
A 429ci V8, a Turbo 400, interior space for like 10 people, and the pillow soft suspension setup that was the brand’s signature at this time? Ultimate cruiser!
Hey Streetside…fix the fu@#$ng seat…you could ask $2gs more for it.
