Rally Perfection Video: Watch An Amazing Driver And Co-Driver Dominate A Sloppy Stage In A Finnish Forest

Racer Juha Kankkunen is a legend in Finland and while watching the video below you will figure out why. The guy is manhandling his car though a rainy, muddy, and otherwise sloppy stage during the 1998 Neste Rally in Finland while his cool as ice co-driver Juha Repo reads off the directions as if the two are on an afternoon nature cruise in the woods. The majority of this two minute video is footage taken from inside the car which is perfect. The only cutaways are when the car is shown sliding sideways through corners and stuff. It is 100% action perfection in our eyes.

As is still the case, fans line much of the course. The good news is that the majority of them are in elevated viewing positions so even if something were to have gone wrong the risk to them is pretty low. That being said, there are some organ donors who are standing on the outside edge of some fast and very loose corners. Those are the dummies that get the human bowling pin treatment when a driver loses the handle or overcooks a turn. No such worry out of these guys, though. They clearly have a good program together and their attack of this tricky special stage is nothing less than awesome to watch.

Put in the same car, under the same circumstances, we’d have probably made it to the second corner before wadding the thing into the biggest tree in the forest. Raw talent and guts on display right here!

Thanks to Seppo Kokko for the tip!

The only reason I came in here was to comment that ‘Sloppy Stage’ sounds a little dirty there Brian.
