RideTech’s Bret Voelkel Takes Home Top Honors At 6th Annual Motor State Challenge At GingerMan Raceway In Michigan

If there is a race track that RideTech president Bret Voelkel loves, it has to be GingerMan raceway combined with autocross action at the Tire Rack test center in South Bend, Indiana. Why? Because those two facilities are where the heavy lifting of the yearly Motor State Challenge take place and for the second year running, Voelkel has bested them all over the course of the weekend long competition. Bret was wheeling the well-known 48-Hour Camaro and with his level of acumen, combined with the knowledge of the car he was able to wheel it like a mad man and take home first place in the vintage class within the Manufacturer’s Shootout.

The Motor State Challenge is one of those races that we need to get out to at some point. It always draws a ton of cool cars, it is held in neat places, and by all accounts the racing is spectacular.

For the second year in a row, RideTech president Bret Voelkel has won the manufacturers shootout in the vintage class at the 2014 Motorstate Challenge held this past weekend.  The Motorstate Challenge consists of one day of road course action at GingerMan Raceway and one day of Autocross action at the Tire Rack test track in South Bend, in.
Another great weekend of racing is in the books!  The 6th Annual Motor State Challenge was nothing short of amazing and the Motor State / Lane Automotive team that puts on the event deserves a standing ovation!
Bret Voelkel, Jim McKamey, Josh Petry, Chris Smith, & Rodney Prouty rolled into GingerMan Raceway last Thursday knowing it was going to be a good weekend. The RideTech 48 Hour Camaro, RideTech 64 Corvette Test Mule, Smitty’s Custom Automotive C10,  and Rodney’s “Plane Jane” Camaro were already prepped and ready for a weekend of abuse.
Friday the day was spent at GingerMan Raceway running the road course portion of the event. Bret competed in the 48Hour Camaro while Rodney raced his personal 68 Camaro.  Above you see Bret Voelkel running down the front straight of GingerMan. Bret finished 7th out of over 60 cars on the road course portion of the event.
Jim McKamey’s day of autocrossing was spent in the RideTech 64 Corvette Test Mule. This old Corvette is about as barn find as they come. A good tune up, full RideTech Coil-Over suspension, Baer Brakes, and a good set of Falken Tires wrapped around Billet Specialties wheels was all this old vette needed to be right there in the running.
Chris Smith was back on the track again this weekend in his 67 C10. Chris and his crew at Smitty’s Custom Automotive have spent thousands of hours on this C10 to make sure it gets around the track competitively while still competeing with the best of shows.
Above you see Randy Johnson and Jimi Day playing a little game of cat and mouse on the  GingerMan road course. Jimi’s AMX and Randy’s Camaro are both equipped with RideTech Coil-Overs.
Ron Schwarz’s incredibly potent Mustang. This is one car that you could spend hours going over all the trick suspension, drivetrain,  and body mods on.
Rodney Prouty and the “Plane Jane” Camaro. After the previous weekend’s Gateway race and then GingerMan, we think Rodney is starting to get hooked on the road course action.
Special thanks go out to Dan and Mike Ballard. They have been RideTech dealers and supporters for years. Below you see Dan and his Nova on track at GingerMan. Many of the pictures you see in today’s update are courtesy of Dan and Mike. Thanks guys!
