Sound Showdown! Do You Prefer The Scream Of An Aston Martin V12 Or The Classic Anger Of A Ford Small Block?

Sound Showdown! Do You Prefer The Scream Of An Aston Martin V12 Or The Classic Anger Of A Ford Small Block?

Here’s a cool video that comes from a group of them being posted by our pals over at the Historic Sportscar Racing series. They call them the “Sound Series” and basically they take two cars and give you clips of each one and you can let your ear holes suck up all the beautiful noise that they are creating. In this case we have an Aston Martin V12, one of the most iconic piston engines ever devised and a small block Ford working between the fenders of a Mustang GT350 on the banks of Daytona.

It is funny how much the sound signature of engines varies. Obviously just about every factor of an engine has some effect on the acoustical nature of the exhaust from the camshaft to the cylinder heads, the type of fuel being burned, hell even the outside weather can change that to some degree. There are some people who are absolutely dedicated to loving V8s, some that only love the noise an inline six can make, a few weirdos who really prefer the droning strangeness that many V10s produce (not the old F1 engines, though!).

The neat thing about this type of racing, the kind that HSR does is the fact that there are often many different types of cars on the track at once. At a drag race, a stock car race, an Indy Car race, you are going to hear awesome noise but it is usually the same in many respects. In road racing you have different classes, different manufacturers, and very different machines all attacking the course. We’d get as close as we could to the banked portion of the track and listen to each and every car come by at full throat just to drink it all in.

We want to know which one of these sounds you prefer!

Why electric racing will never get my attention. Race cars are alive with sounds and shifting and will bite you if you don’t pay attention. racing without sound is not racing.
