Not So Magnificent Seven: This Video Profiles Seven Of The Most Heartbreaking Racing Losses Ever

The awesome thing about racing is that it is an unending battle between man/woman and machine. Typically speaking, the best men and women get the best machines and then make with them what they will. That would seem lopsided in terms of success but as you will see here, occasionally the best of both major elements of racing don’t always win. In fact, sometimes they lose in ways that seem as if some larger power was conspiring against them. Last lap leads vanishing, mechanical failures, simple bad decision making, and more can lead to painful outcomes, even for the greats.

While this video skews heavily European and we can certainly think of some other motorsports which have delivered pain in bucketloads, the stories here are epic and perhaps not as well known to many BangShifters. Nigel Mansell’s 1986 Australia debacle, Toyota’s Le Mans domination evaporating before the eyes of the crew, and a lot more are profiled here.

Like a wise man once said, if it was easy everyone would be doing it. The best part is, it ain’t easy, not everyone can do it, and those who do are not guaranteed anything in the end. Watch this with facepalms at the ready.
