The Spirit Of A Touring Car, The Heart Of An F1 Racer, And A Soundtrack From Hell: Georg Plasa’s JUDD V8-Powered BMW

Regardless of what you prefer to do when it comes to automotive work, whether you wrench, drive or just like to watch, there is one thing that connects every gearhead: The sound that the car makes. Some like the bass thumping noise of an old-school American V8 loping at idle, ready to rock. Some love the chirps and blasts from a turbocharged Japanese six. Some just love the way an Italian V12 screams it’s lungs out. No matter what your taste, if the car sounds right, a lot can be forgiven.

This BMW 1-series DTM-style racer has a soundtrack, alright. The little coupe is packing a 3.4L JUDD V8 under the hood. JUDD was started as a partnership between John Judd and Jack Brabham, which would supply Brabham’s racing teams with engines. Since then they have expanded to such areas as Formula 1, and that’s exactly what you have here: A 14,000 RPM screamer that howls with the ferocity of an enraged demon. This particular car was driven by Georg Plasa, who was well known in the European hill climb community. Sadly, Plasa was involved in a wreck with this BMW in late 2011 that cost him his life, but the engineering work that was put into this BMW is incredible. The car was built based upon weight savings and weight distribution, so much so that paint weight was brought into the equation. Hit play below and listen for yourself to the sounds of Plasa’s BMW screaming up the hills.

    F1 with a body….
I would love to have about an hour of F1 music ,12cyl ,10 cyl and V8 with some Turbo cars through in. Just blast the speakers on a road trip.

Its crazy how it sounds so different with the car from front to back.

Hahaha I like it! (in my best Chevy Chase impersonation)

The intake noise of a v10 or V8 F1 car is second only to a 410 sprint’s intake sound coming at you full steam. 300kph on ashpalt or 130mph on dirt, music of the angels.
