Seriously?! NASCAR Apparently Set To Mandate Standard Air Gun For All Teams In 2018

Seriously?! NASCAR Apparently Set To Mandate Standard Air Gun For All Teams In 2018

According to well known NASCAR news website Jayski.com, the racing body is expected the mandate a spec air gun for all teams to use in the pits for changing tires. We totally understand why. This is a money saving rule but it seems like it is stepping over stacks of hundreds to pick up a couple of grungy pennies off the ground. No, we’re not saying that they are going to get a group discount for buying what will apparently be a Paoli pit stop gun but instead, it will save them money because teams like Joe Gibbs racing have invested in time and engineering to make their stuff work faster than others. That stuff is all junk now, apparently.

Obviously the largest racing series in the country has some concerns about its current state and the massive budgets required to compete on its highest level. The same concerns have made their way down to places like the truck series which has seen shrinkage and will continue to see it according to the announcements made by several teams after the latest spate of rules changes that came out a couple of months ago.

The bean counters had to have really made the deep dive to get to this line item on the budget, right? Can you imagine the meeting? “Ok, Johnson how are we going to save these guys some money?” – “Sir, we’re down to the pit guns.”

It would be funny if it wasn’t so sad.

You can’t innovate the cars, you can’t build your own bodies anymore, and now you have to use the same freaking pit guns as everyone else. May as well paint them all the same, too.

Here’s the story from Jayski.com – we get it but boy is this lame

Putting “asses” in the seats should be their priority. Surprised they’re not mandating a NASCAR. brand gun.

Of all the great products that are still made in the USA they go to Italy, come on guys use your head!

Next step(s)? Automated pit crews, 1:1 scale R/C cars, or maybe just go full autonomous EVs, you know, for safety.
Of course, the only real competition amongst the OEs would be to eliminate the human factor. Silly Meatbags, mucking up a good auto race between Skinjobs!

I like that idea… if they want to make the teams save money, an X-wrench is going to be cheaper than an Italian air gun and has more of the “I can do that!” factor going for it too.

Dave, that’s a boss idea ! I’m over nazzcar. Gonna spend my disposable income at the Indy Speedrome and Anderson Speedway.

Ridiculous. They make all the cars generic and basically the same and now they make the tools the same? It is no wonder they are seeing such a drop in ratings every year.

  6. Jeff

This has Little Brian France written all over it. He\’s the only one who could make such a stupid idea be mandated.

I say let the meatbags driving get out of the “car”(?) and change the bleeping tire’s by themselves. Oh yeah with an X wrench.

  8. Todd

Paint all the cars white, put the drivers all in white drivers suits like Sting, and let them all race and pit in any pit, when the race is over, the winner removes his helmet to reveal the winner.

  9. Jerry W Johnson

Limit the number of garage passes each week. Not flying in a crew that just pits the cars on Sunday would save a lot more money.

  10. Howard LedFut Ledford

Too bady Smokey Yunick isn’t still alive. He’d make a 7/8ths scale gun that would be lighter & faster so NASCAR would have to create air gun templates!
