The 2016 Porsche Cayman GT4: The Car That Is Causing Porsche Purists To Scream In Anger

The 2016 Porsche Cayman GT4: The Car That Is Causing Porsche Purists To Scream In Anger

I love Porsche purists. They make Mopar freaks seem tame and normal by comparison. They have memorized every single possible model of the vaunted 911…hell, they don’t refer to the cars as the 911, but by their type numbers. Quick, can you tell me the difference between the 996, 991 and the 964? Nope, I can’t either (though I do know that 996 is the first water-cooled Porsche), but these guys can tell you everything…the changes, the similarities, the color options, the people who have owned them worth mentioning. And they all will tell you how to drive your 911, mostly because of the issue of the rear engine location hanging past the rear suspension. Ralph Nader might have been screaming holy hell about the Corvair, but if he had seen the kind of snap oversteer a Porsche was capable of, he would have had an epileptic fit on the spot.

Then there is the Boxster/Cayman twins. Mid engined. Water-cooled. Slow. Porsche purists stuck their nose up at them. I heard guys refer to them as “Porsche’s answer to the Miata”. Then the Cayman came out, the Boxster with a roof, and suddenly you had a very close strike to the 911’s shape. “Don’t add power.” Panic set in about whether or not the Cayman could overrule the 911. Well, they finally added power with the new GT4. How does it do compared to the icon? Click play below and see.
