(By Tom Lohnes – Photo Credit: Motor1.com) – The all-new 2023 model year Ford Mustang has been spotted for the first time with its production body on, and from what we can see, it looks great.
Known to Mustang enthusiasts worldwide as the S650, we know very little about this next-generation ‘Stang. But, from what is visible under camo, it seems to have a familiar look. The front end will take cues like slim headlights and a rounder grille from of all vehicles the Mach-E electric crossover, as the side profile takes a more 2010-2014 S197 look with all of the camo on top of it. Of course, the silhouette could very much be a façade, because the roofline is looking a little suspicious in the back.
Overall, this should be no huge departure from the 2015-2021 model, but it should sport the same long-hood-short-deck design that we’ve all become accustomed to, and have a way nicer interior than the rental-car chic S550. Powertrains are another mystery, but expect both 4-cylinder and V8 options, along with some sort of electrification further down the road. Also, a first for a 2-door Mustang, there is a rumor going around that select models will be Available with AWD. For V8 enthusiasts this probably doesn’t matter, but an AWD manual ecoboost Mustang sounds a whole lot like a sleeker Focus RS to me.
As of right now, we know next to nothing about this thing. But, because this vehicle is a Ford after all, expect a rogue employee or a test mule driving around camoless to leak sometime in the future, as this has happened too many times to count with new vehicles coming out of Dearborn.
Looks like it ran through a tarps display at the annual house painter’s convention.
