Here’s some cool dyno video from the guys at Savannah Race Engineering. These fellows run a well regarded engine shop that builds everything from Can Am big blocks to 98ci Cosworth four bangers. In this video, we’re going to concentrate on the small stuff, mainly four cylinder engines that are found in any number of vintage road racing cars. We’re calling this the 8,000 club because every motor in this video pulls to at least eight grand and one pulls all the weight up to 9,800 RPM. These little monsters are nothing to sneeze at either. All are naturally aspirated and all manage to make pretty amazing horsepower numbers when you consider their size and the fact that there’s nothing “helping” them to make more power in the form of boost or nitrous. In addition, most of these are “old” motors meaning that they have carbs and were used in vintage racing. It isn’t like these just came out of a modern formula car or something. We dig the hell out of that part, too. Guys knew how to make power back then just as they do now.

At about 1:05 into the video you will see a four cylinder Ford Cosworth engine that displaces about 120ci and makes 300hp at 9,400 RPM. Now we’re V8 guys to the core here as you all know, but if you cannot appreciate that hellacious little mother then you need to turn in your BS member card on the way out the door. Chew on these pissed off ‘bangers for today and tomorrow we will be back up in your business with the “big bore” engines as these road race guys call them. We call ’em V8s and they have twice the level of auditory pleasure as is displayed by this rogue’s gallery of full race fours! How awesome would a little stripper Falcon be with one of those Coworth jobs in it?!
