The Final Result: The Mighty Car Mods’ RB-Swapped Fairlady Z Is On The Track!

Watching Marty and Moog take a 1975 Fairlady Z from an engineless shell of a car imported straight from Japan to a restomod that any gearhead should be proud to own has been a great source of entertainment over this year. Everything about the little white Datsun is spot-on…the wheels look great, the interior is clean, the look is proper and appropriate to the car, and while many will lament the loss of the original inline-six, which couldn’t come over to Australia due to rules regarding asbestos, the Nissan RB26 is a worthy replacement that doesn’t really take away from the proper formula of an early Z-car. From the moment they pushed the shell into the shop until this video, where the car is wearing plates and is on a track to compete with an older MCM project car, the “Super Gramps” Subaru Liberty station wagon, it’s been a journey of putting the car together not only to work, but to appease Australian inspectors who are exceptionally thorough about what is allowed and what won’t be allowed on public roads. The end result is a car with the modern reliability and power, the classic lines that captured the hearts of millions over the years, and the performance that deserves praise. Congratulations, guys!
