(By Tom Lohnes) – The beans have been spilled, as an insider from Nissan has revealed the base horsepower stat, name, and starting price of the new Z car. Buckle up, things are about to get real.
With 400 horsepower base, the new car won’t use any numbers in its name, and will be known as the “Z”. This declutters the name, but it does sound a little less cool than 400Z. Toyota has to start upping their game with the Supra, because rumor says the base Z will start at $34,995, which is almost $10,000 less than the 4-cylinder powered Supra, much less the 6-cylinder.
With that Silver car spotted being shipped to America, I’m going to guess the reveal for the car will be in the next few weeks. And when this comes out Toyota has to seriously reconsider the pricing for this car, because the closest thing price-wise there would be to the 400-hp Z in their lineup would be a Camry TRD or an 86, both of which aren’t exactly peak sports car.
So, if these rumors are true, we owe Nissan a good pat on the back for keeping the Z affordable to the masses. Think of it, you could spend $5,000 over a base Miata and get a base Z with 220 more horses!

Tell me that the dash in this car isn’t butt ugly. Entertainment system, plastic nervosa, what ever happened to analog or omg mechanical gauges and a dash free of a tv and three hundred gizmos?
I so wanted this car to be a drivers car, not just drivetrain wise, but with an interior that didn’t stink of oversell.
Car designers are so far removed from the drivetrain teams it’s absurd.
