The Rollercoaster From Hell: What Genius Put A Jump On A Drift Circuit?!

The Rollercoaster From Hell: What Genius Put A Jump On A Drift Circuit?!

Some of you readers don’t understand the fascination with drifting. In a short, sweet form, it’s chaos that has only the tiniest element of control. Drifting is right up there with fire artistry or watching a stuntman in action…that combination of risk and control makes watching a car sliding at high speeds entertaining, and that’s why the crowds flock. Normal professional drifting is already quite enthralling, with tandem runs that put cars door-to-door in a synchronized ballet performance and the push to see who can scrape the wall without actually earning a case of concrete poisoning. Even from my privileged position of photographing the action, drifting is wild and exciting and has lent itself to many photos that I’m very proud of.

But you either grow upwards or you grow stale. What do you do to liven up a motorsport that is associated with energy drinks, trendy music, dead tires galore and an already high risk of sheetmetal damage? Why not a jump on a downhill section that feeds into a left-hander, just because you want drivers to spend a few minutes in a zero-gravity situation, contemplating their life choices before the cars slam back down to earth and they have to get that next slide going underneath the bridge…or, if they are very ballsy, they just hit the jump sideways and rock that sucker all the way through!
