Ruh Ro: Three Formula One Crew Members In Isolation After Testing Positive For Coronavirus In Australia

Things have gotten more complicated for the organizers of the season-opening Australian Grand Prix as three Formula One crew members have been placed into isolation after testing positive for the Coronavirus at the event. This comes on the heels of local protests regarding the staging of the race which has brought hundreds of European team and crew members into Australia, a country that had (up to this point) been nearly free of the virus that is spreading though “the Continent” like wildfire.

According to The Guardian, one member of the McLaren team and two members of the Haas F1 team showed symptoms and were tested for the virus, which then led them to be placed in an isolation area that the series has setup at the course in Melbourne. It is expected that more testing will happen and may be happening as you read this and the results of said tests could determine the course of action for the event.

The Australian GP is one of the more far-flung events for the series and the cost just to get all the stuff and people there have to be incredible. Medical professionals are roundly criticizing the decision made to run the event. It remains to be seen if practice will begin on Friday. Formula One drivers are reportedly concerned at the situation and if they decide to band together and boycott the event, it may leave race organizers no choice on a way forward.

    I believe most of the crew members all fly on the same chartered aircraft, which means the more people that are tested, the more infected people will be found.

    As of this morning the Gatornationals have been postponed. This is serious folks. Stay clean and healthy, maybe the medics can figure it out before the bottom falls out.
