Love him or hate him, Tony Stewart has never once held back when wanting to voice an issue, level criticism, or simply call NASCAR out. This time his words were not directed to the monolithic organization but rather to one person, its Chairman Brian France. In comments made to Sirius/XM radio host Dave Moody, Stewart went up one side of Brian France and down the other citing his lack of presence at the garage during race weekends, his delegation of jobs and duties that were once overseen by “Big” Bill and Bill France Jr, and his perceived lack of understanding when it comes to the nuances of race car design, tuning, aerodynamics, and the sport in general. This is the stick and ball equivalent of calling out the commissioner of the league. It usually ends with a fine.
Some people have grown tired of Stewart’s outspoken nature over the years (we’re guessing that Brian France heads that list) but at the end of the day doesn’t there need to be a person on the ground that is willing to speak up, question authority, and essentially take a few blows on the chin when the inevitable repercussions happen? Tony Stewart clearly loves stock car racing. He has a tacit understanding of how the business words because he owns a race track. He knows oval raving from top to bottom as he runs every kind of car imaginable outside of NASCAR, and he’s still one of the biggest stars the series has, albeit in the twilight of his career.
The link below has all his quotes. Is anything he’s saying wrong?
It really eerie how Tony Stewart and AJ Foyt act. You swear that they were father and son!
I agree on everything Tony said in his interview. There is legitimate argument he has put forth because for one I like stock car racing and hope they continue to change back to racing like it was 30+ years ago. Doubt it will happen but we only hope.
GO SMOKE!!!!!!!!!!
Its good to see a non PC driver tell it like it is, I use to watch NASCAR until it turned all PC and boring. Tony is just calling out Brian France for who he is – a disconnected chairman of NASCAR who doesn’t know shit about what he inherited.
I agree that NASCAR has gone PC. A guy misses 11 races and still wins the championship?? Congrats Kyle Bush for winning the 2015 NASCAR Charity Cup.
I call it the Homestead Cup. Imagine, doesn’t matter how you got there. Throw away 35 of the season’s scheduled races and reset the points for 4 cars. Let’s reset the points right after the Homestead race and have a pie eating contest. Nearly as legit.
Well Kyle played buy the Rules……Knowing NASCAR history they will change the Rules…..Again & Again……….About Tony he has always given his support to NASCAR…The media has always been about dig up dirt about anything Sports whether it’s true or not & create Drama………..
HA!, did anyone actually proof-read this crap before posting it, or did you just spew it to get the “hit count”?
The championship format SUCKS!
Go Smoke, you should not be punished for your true thoughts about this stupid organization, whose focus is only about “counting the beans” at the end of the day.
Nascar should just end the season at Z Max dragstrip. Run the top 4 down the track, declare the champion and end the misery. Boring drivers, boring racing.
Many of us who have been around Nascar for the last 30 years plus can grasp exactly what Tony has said to France. It was obvious with Kyle missing all those races who the Champion would be. Nascar today is confined to my radio in my garage.I will
continue to only watch one race ( Daytona
500) not so much for what it is today but for what Nascar used to be..
Outside of that I simply can’t do it..
Who cares what Tony thinks. I can’t wait for this season to be over so he is silenced
Tony is right. Now France endorses trump. That is the stupidest business decision he has ever made. Pissing off the majority of your fans. If anything he should have stayed OUT of it. I have some great nascar jackets I will be listing on Ebay. #nevernascar #nevertrump
