(By Tom Lohnes) – Toyota really seems to be speeding up the development for their future GR Corolla hot hatchback, because it’s been teased once again.
First off, two versions of this unassuming teaser were posted on Instagram by Toyota themselves. One showed a full shot of the hot hatch, but was deleted for some reason. The other one, which is still up, starts out as an ad for Toyota’s own GR86. It shows two cars ripping up a road, and then cuts to this teaser. In these two shots that maybe last a second, there is a little peak at a modern Corolla hatch’s front clip, and then a shot of someone shifting gears in a manual transmission-equipped Toyota. We assume this is the hot Corolla, but the GR86 also comes with a stick, so it could really be either. This new hatch may not be terribly exciting to people in Europe or Asia that get new hot vehicles like this every other day, but it really is a breath of fresh air for Americans, who currently only have one option for a fast, AWD hatch, the Golf R.
Toyota hasn’t confirmed a release date for their new enthusiast option, but expect a reveal sometime in the first two quarters of 2022.
Hmm… Everything I had seen said the Corrolla was getting the 3cyl from the GR Yaris, yet it says GR FOUR… 4 banger after all?
Spill the aerodynamics. It’s all about slipping thru the air. I can’t wait for ‘transformer’ hybrid motion designs.
