(By Tom Lohnes) – The Toyota Corolla is basically the definition of a car. A to B transportation at its finest. Well, there’s a crossover version now, and it is also very much a car.
Called the Corolla Cross, this subcompact crossover is about as boring as it gets, even when it comes to these tiny things. Outside, the styling is supposed to look like a mini Rav4, but instead it appears as it has had a botched plastic surgery on its grille. For an engine, it has the exact same 2.0-liter Naturally Aspirated Inline-4 making 169 horsepower and 150 lb-ft of torque, plenty for a vehicle of this size. Of course, a CVT is the only transmission available, because we don’t want the driver to have even a little bit of fun, do we? Inside is the same bland but very spacious and high-quality interior the standard Corolla has, and everything else besides the body style is about identical to the sedan.
So, will you be purchasing a Corolla Cross? It isn’t the most exciting entry in the game, but it definitely provides good features, fuel economy, and room for what you’re paying. Speaking of what you’re paying, we don’t actually know that yet, but I’m sure it it’ll start below $20,000.
