There’s nothing more fun than tearing an engine down, right? No matter if it is your lawn mower or your race car, there’s stuff to be seen, stuff to be learned, and stuff to potentially fix. In this case we’re watching the teardown of this vintage 1957 Cadillac 365 V8 which is the subject of the latest Redline Rebuild by Hagerty. Having never seen one of these engines outside of a car, it’s a neat piece to check out. As far as truly weird stuff? There’s not a ton of that outside of the water pump which is something that looks like it came off a fire engine. Outside of that, the 365 is pretty traditional for a 1950s V8. If you have ever ripped into a Studebaker or other OHV mill from this period, lots of stuff looks remotely familiar.
There’s not catastrophic stuff to be found here. Wear, tear, maybe a lack of maintenance over the years, but nothing that appears to be terminal in nature to prevent this block from being loved on a little and then the whole thing coming back together. Unlike the Buick straight eight where Davin was able to do some fun stuff with the cam, induction, and custom pistons, this is going to be a straight up rebuild to put back in a Cadillac that is being restored. It may lack for the raw horsepower of hot roddy fun, but we’re excited to be made new again. Are you?
