To some level, all forms of racing are unforgiving. Bad light at the drag strip by a few hundredths and you are toast. Try to pass at the wrong time during a stock car race and the field will blow by you as if you car is attached to a block of concrete, but rally racing is an especially wicked form of competition because something as simple as overcooking a turn, as this driver found out, can result in a ride that you won’t forget for the rest of your born days. We’re not sure what rally this happened at or what country it happened in, but wow did it happen fast. The driver of the Mitrubishi Lancer Evolution is carving through some twisty and seemingly dry roads when he enters a left hand turn too hot and the car comes out from under him. If this were a road course in the traditional sense, he would have lost time by skidding off into the grass. Since it isn’t, crap goes VERY bad very quick.
The car enters a steep ditch at a pretty good clip and immediately upon entering the ditch gets vaulted into the air to the point that the car does end over end flips without touching the ground before smashing down and ending up on the roof. Subsequent videos show that the drivers and co-driver were OK but the car is completely destroyed. We’re wondering if the guys knew what was coming as they headed off the road or if they expected to just crunch down into the ditch and await assistance from helpful fans. Instead they performed an ariel stunt show the likes of which we’ve rarely seen.
This is one of those situations when you immediately start to dread the inevitable questions from your co-workers on Monday morning when they ask, “So, how did the race go?” NOT GOOD.
